Nicholas Stevens died tragically Friday, October 12, 2018 at the young age of 54 years old.
Nick was born in Plainfield, NJ on June 3, 1964 only son of Frances (Popolillo) and Nicholas J. Stevens. He was raised in Colonia, NJ, and lived in Millington NJ for the past 16 years.

He graduated from the Rutgers Preparatory School, received an A. B. in Political Science and Philosophy from Duke University and earned his law degree at Emory University.

Nick worked as an attorney and was a partner at Starr, Gern, Davison and Rubin, P.C. in Roseland, NJ. He had an active practice in the employment arena, involving LAD and CEPA litigation, employment severance negotiations, commercial litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. He was in the second year of his term as President of the Justice Marie L. Garibaldi American Inn of Court for Alternate Dispute Resolution. Nick served as a NJ Court Qualified Mediator and was recently inducted as a member of The National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals. Nick was recognized as a Super Lawyer in employment law by his peers and has been designated in the Super Lawyers publication every year since its inception in the early 2000s.

He served as President for the Long Hill Township Board of Education from 2015 - 2017, President of the Duke Club of New Jersey, President of the Garibaldi Inn of Court, board member and past President of Community Health Law Project, former director for the New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and past chair of the board of directors for the New Jersey Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Inc., which he co-founded.

Nick had a passion for many things in life, above all he was passionate about his family and friends. Nick was an accomplished guitarist and songwriter, with an interest in many genres of music, among his favorite artists were Carlos Santana, Bruce Springsteen and Pat Matheny. He began playing guitar at the age of 12, playing in many bands over the years, founding his band “Nick Pablo Thang” in 1990. He was an avid cyclist since 2002, a bona fide foodie, a connoisseur of wine, a lover of art and poetry, and a life-long Ranger fan. He loved spending time at his shore house in LBI. Nick frequented New York City, New Orleans and California where he spent precious time with loved ones enjoying good food, spirits and music.

Nick is survived by his loving wife Kelly D. (Tennant) Stevens, his two children, Nicholas James,19, and Hannah Elizabeth, 16, his parents Frances and Nicholas Stevens, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct 19th between 4pm and 8pm at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, located at 1012 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ 07933. Phone 908-647-1603
