Obituary for Linda Sue Nathanson

Linda Sue Nathanson died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Summit, NJ. She was 67. Linda was born in Washington D.C. on August 11, 1946, a daughter of the late Edith (Weinstein) and Nat Nathanson. She was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, and lived in Los Angeles, Staten Island, Brooklyn Heights, and Fort Lee before moving to Gillette, NJ, 26 years ago.

She was a graduate of High Point High School in Silver Spring, Maryland, and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in 1969. She majored in Psychology, with a minor in Computer Science. In 1975, she earned her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Behavioral Psychology, from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Linda started her career as Director of Training for Rockland Research Institute, as a result of a class-action lawsuit filed against the State of New York, due to deplorable living conditions at New York’s Willowbrook State School. Her varied career included teaching at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Pace University, and SUNY College of Optometry; consultant, technical writer, and trainer. She wrote over 70 hardware and software user, training, and online help manuals; was on 7 different Who’s Who lists; and was appointed as Research Fellow at UCLA, and later at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Her most recent employment was with Merck, writing Standard Operating Procedures. As an entrepreneur, Linda created and sold greeting cards which featured her beloved Spitzs, and formed EDIN BOOKS where she conducted resume-writing seminars, consulted on graphic design projects, and led a publishing ensemble to produce books, CDs and audio tapes focused on reincarnation.

She was an avid bowler and loved photography. Her real passion was her love for animals. Her pets included her 2 dogs, Ivan and Raga; and her 4 cats, Paint, Red, Max and Mick which she raised with her husband, Jim.

She is survived by her husband, James Barrett, and several cousins.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ, 07933, from 2.00pm – 4.00pm. Following the visitation, there will be a gathering at a to-be-determined restaurant nearby.
