Obituary for Elizabeth B Weiss

Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” nee: Lehmann Weiss died on October 1, 2014 in New Providence, NJ after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. She was 79.

Betty was born in Union, NJ a daughter to the late Clara E (Sigloch) and Karl F. Lehmann, where she lived until moving to New Providence in 1960.
She was a graduate of Union High School, Union, NJ where she was drum majorette and competed nationally with the Newark Nacettes Synchronized Swim Team.
After graduating from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Montclair, NJ,
Betty began her career as a secretary with the FBI in Newark, NJ, and later with Cardiology Diagnostic Associates in New Providence for 27 years before retiring.

After retiring, Betty focused her heart and soul into pursuing her artistic talents. She received numerous awards for her watercolors and was an exhibiting member of the Essex Watercolor Club, the Millburn-Short Hills Art Center, the Drew Art Association, the Livingston Art Association and Chatham Art League. She studied at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts in Summit, the Morris Museum, Union County College and the Livingston Art Association.

An ardent Yankee baseball fan, Betty also participated in many community activities including; The Woman’s Club of New Providence (50 year member), New Providence Community Pool Board (secretary), Town Club of New Providence, New Providence Senior Citizens and New Providence United Methodist Church.

She was pre-deceased in March of 2014 by her husband of 58 years Arney Weiss.

She is survived by her children Scott G. Weiss and his fiancé Christine De Franco, Stephanie G. Weiss, Susan and her husband Howard Glass, and Robin E. Weiss, her sister Claire and husband Julius Stang, and 4 grandchildren; Heather Weiss and her fiancé Brian Dunne, Daniel Weiss, Matthew Glass and his wife Lisa, and Amanda Glass, in addition to 8 nephews and 1 niece.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ with Pastor Victor Franco officiating. Visitation will be Monday, October 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s name can be made to The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts or Lustgarten Foundation - Pancreatic Cancer Research.
