Harold Henry Wisinger died Thursday, September 10, 2015 in Berkeley Heights, NJ. He was 94.
Harold was born on October 28, 1920 in the City of Passaic, NJ, a son to the late Theresa (Weinpel) and Joseph Wisinger. He was a lifelong resident of Clifton.
He was a graduate of Clifton High School class of 1938, and worked as a Postal Carrier for the Clifton Post Office for 30 years before retiring in 1985.
Harold served in the US Army in France and Germany during WWII, received a Bronze Star for Gallantry, and later served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. His commendation that accompanied the Bronze Star read in part: “Volunteering to lead a patrol to recover casualties, Sgt. Wisinger and his men encountered heavy enemy fire. Exposing himself, Sgt. Wisinger engaged the enemy in a fire fight. Then, deliberately running across an open road, he drew the enemy’s fire upon himself, thus enabling other members of the patrol to safely withdraw. His heroic , totally unselfish action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Army of the United States.”
He was a member of the American Legion Post 347 in Clifton, and played in the Postal Service Softball and Bowling leagues. No mater how tired after a long work day, he never turned down the chance to play wiffleball with his son and neighborhood friends.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary (Pojedinec) Wisinger in 2005, and his daughter Noelle Savastano.
Harold is survived by his son John E. and his wife Debra, 2 grandchildren Kelley and her husband William Haley, and Christopher Savastano and his wife Doreen. He had 2 great grandsons Jared and Justin.
