John J. Burke
Blairstown resident, Communication Specialist, Army Captain, active in American Legion
John J. Burke, 68, passed away on December 31, 2015 at his home in Blairstown.
Visitation will be held at Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Road, Gillette N.J. on Wednesday January 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Bebout Avenue, Stirling N.J on Thursday January 7 at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, N.J. Born and raised in Jersey City, John was predeceased by his loving wife of 41 years Maria and his parents John and Helen (Lally) Burke. Surviving are his 4 siblings, Ann Rachmiel and her husband George of Millington N.J, Thomas Burke and his wife Marguerite of Towson Md., Mary Jane Walbridge and her husband John of Chatham NJ, Robert Burke and his wife Lisa of Warren NJ., many loving nephews and nieces and his many friends from Blairstown NJ.
John was a graduate of St. Peter’s College, Columbia School of Journalism and a graduate of Seton Hall Law School. He served honorably in the US Army in Europe during the Vietnam period, attaining the rank of Captain. He spent many years in the Public Relations and Crisis Management field, most recently as an independent consultant with his late wife Maria. He was a faculty associate at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he taught graduate courses on communication. John with his wife Maria owned and operated the Jolly Holly Christmas Tree Farm in Blairstown NJ fulfilling a lifetime dream of theirs. He was very active in the Warren County American Legion and many other Blairstown civic events.
