Richard E. Joyce passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 in Gillette, NJ. He was 104.
Richard was born and raised in Bayonne, NJ, a son to the late Emma nee Wagner and David Joyce. He lived in Hollis Queens, NY for a short time before moving back to Bayonne and settling in Gillette, NJ where he has live ever since.
He was a graduate of Pace University in NY, and worked as Treasury Agent for the US Government, upon retirement, Mr. Joyce worked as an Agent at the Bureau of Securities in Newark, NJ from 1967-1983.
Richard enlisted in the US Army, and served from 1931-1936 & 1943- 1946 including during WWII. He was the former president and active member of the Senior Citizen’s of Long Hill Township. He also was a member of the Studebaker and Republican Clubs. Richard loved photography.
He was pre-deceased by his brother David Joyce and his sister Caroline Connelly.
Richard is survived by his wife Rita nee Miller, they were eleven days shy of their 65th wedding anniversary, His daughter Linda Joyce of Gillette, NJ, his son Robert Joyce and his wife Patty of Milltown, NJ, and his grandchildren Katrina, Nicholas, and Richard, several nephews and cousins.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday March 23, 2016 at St. Vincent’s De Paul, 249 Bebout Ave, Stirling, NJ, Services will continue at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park Crematory after mass. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 22, 2016 from 4-7 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ.
