Obituary for Ruth Ann Rahe (Kniat)

Ruth Ann Rahe died at her home in Flanders, New Jersey on January 22, 2017 at the age of 70 of a prolonged illness.

She was born in Manistee, Michigan on January 6, 1947 to Josephine (Derwinski) and Jack Kniat. She had one sister, Jean Smith, and 4 brothers, Paul, John (deceased), Mark, and Gary Kniat. She graduated from Manistee High School. She was married to Albert Rahe in Manistee, Michigan on January 11, 1969. After marriage she moved to and lived in East Moline for 10 years. In 1979 she moved with her family to her current residence in Flanders. She worked for the US Post Office as a mail carrier for 30 years in the Flanders and Morris Plains post offices. She belonged to the St Elizabeth Ann Seton parish in Flanders. She enjoyed needle work, ceramics, gardening, dancing, and travel. She enjoyed shopping for clothes for her grandchildren and having them for sleep overs. She especially loved going on cruise ships with 23 different cruises during the later years of her life. She traveled extensively in the US and many of the European countries and cities.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Rahe, one daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Chris Apuzzo, and 8 grand children: Therese, Cosette, Cassandra, Christopher, Chloe, Tessa, Caleb, and Celine Apuzzo.

A wake will be held at the Valley Funeral Home in Gillette, New Jersey January 26, 2017 between 6 pm and 8 pm.

Funeral services will be held on January 27, 2017 at St Vincent de Paul in Stirling, New Jersey at 11 am. Father A. Richard Carton of St Vincent de Paul, Stirling will celebrate the mass with Father Stanley Barron of St Elizabeth of Flanders, New Jersey and Father Richard Vila of Our Lady of Perpetual Hope of Maple Shade, NJ as concelebrants.

The family wishes to thank the staffs at the Morristown Medical Center (especially Dr. Freeman her oncologist) and the Atlantic Home Care & Hospice for the excellent services provided to Ruth Ann and her family during her illness.
