Obituary for Joseph Henry Nowak

Joseph Henry Nowak, 86, a life-long resident of Stirling, died quietly on January 30th, 2017 in Madison, New Jersey.

He was born June 14th, 1930,in Morristown New Jersey the son of the late Henry and Anna Nowak. He was known to many in town as Joe, Serg and Uncle Joe, but to his children and grandchildren, he was Dad and Pop-Pop. He was a gentle and good man, always there to lend a hand when needed. Joe was well loved by family and friends and, during his 86 years, touched many lives. He will be greatly missed.

He served his country as Sergeant First Class Company A 113th Tank Battalion in the National Guard of New Jersey. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and started his career in law enforcement. He spent 26 years serving his community as a Long Hill Township police officer.

Joe filled his time with wood working, fishing, working around the yard and visiting with family. He was not one to be idle, as he needed to always stay busy. He continued working at a local auto mechanics shop until his early 80’s.

Joe is survived by his wife, Susan Potts of Stirling, daughter, Karen L Pereira and husband Eric of Stirling, brother, Jerome “Butch” Nowak of California, step son Warren Potts of Massachusetts, and his five grandchildren, Alston, Alexandra, Meghan, Jessica, and Warren Niles. Sadly he was predeceased by two brothers, two sisters and a niece.
