Oscar F. Terry of North Plainfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday June 13, 2017 at 89 after a short battle with cancer.
Oscar was born in his home in Stirling, NJ on August 17, 1927 to the late Amelia (Metzler) and Oscar F Terry. He lived in Stirling until he joined the Navy towards the end of World War II. He relocated to North Plainfield in 1948 where he lived the rest of his life, but always loved spending time in Stirling with family and friends.
He worked as a carpenter for 42 years retiring in 1989 from Fairmore Development in Boonton under Local Union 620 of Madison receiving his 65 year pin just recently.
Oscar was a member of the Long Hill Township Senior Citizens group and he loved trips to A.C. He spent many a day taking long drives to anywhere and he loved to make everyone laugh with his one liners.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife Catherine (Ferraro) in 1990, his beloved son Frank in 2005, and his sisters Ruth Quinlan and Dot Kunz.
Oscar is survived by his son William and his wife Deborah, his daughter-in-law Sharon, his brother Walter and his wife Joan, six grandchildren, Douglas (Holly), Jeffrey, Brian (Julie), Megan Quinn (Michael), Kyle (Jaclyn) and Kurt (Nicole), and 14 great grandchildren as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews and his sister-in-law Hazel Ferrara and her husband Joseph. He also leaves behind his companion, Martha Pepe, who greatly enriched the last years of his life.
Visitation will be Friday June 16, 2017 from 5-8 pm at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Service will be celebrated on Saturday 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Disposition is Private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stirling Fire Department 321 Somerset St., Stirling, NJ 0980 or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
