Douglas F. “Doug” Nehlsen of Gillette, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2018. He was 53 years old. His big heart and gentle soul will continue to bring joy to all in their remembrance of him.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Doug moved to Rahway, NJ in 1990, and then to his home in Gillette in 1999. Before retiring, he worked in finance at Tradition North America in New York City.
Doug is most fondly remembered for his warm and inviting personality, his generous heart, and his sarcastic sense of humor. He was most at home in the kitchen, where he loved to cook and entertain for his friends and family and was known for his excellent barbeque. His wife and children meant the world to him.
Doug is pre-deceased by his parents Charles Nehlsen and Loretta DeMarco, and his brother Anthony. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years Deborah “Debbie” (nee Giroux), one son Anthony of Philadelphia and his fiancée Celeste, one daughter Taylor of Gillette, one brother Michael and his wife Kerri of Clinton, one niece Samantha, and many good friends.
Funeral Services will begin at 9AM on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Road, Gillette followed by a 10AM Funeral Mass at St. Vincent De Paul RC Church, Stirling. Cremation will be held privately at the family’s request. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20 from 4-8PM at the Funeral Home.
