John A. "Sonny" Clark died Wednesday October 31, 2018 in Morristown, NJ. He was 90.
Sonny was born in Summit, NJ, a son to the late Angelina M. (Perillo) and John J. Clark. He grew up in Summit, NJ, living in New Providence and Berkeley Heights before moving to Millington over 50 years ago.
He was a graduate of Summit High School where he was an accomplished athlete playing quarterback for the football team, guard for the basketball team and pitched for the baseball team. He held many records, and served as Captain of the teams.
After High School he enlisted in the US Marines at the conclusion of WWII and was Honorably discharged in 1948. He was a member of the American Legion.
Sonny returned home and worked for his father and became owner of the West Penn Oil Company in Summit, NJ retiring in 1993. After retirement he drove school busses for Dealaman Bus Co for 14 years.
He loved any activity that included his family from assisting his daughters with owning and competing in horseback riding, shooting targets and self loading ammunition with his son, teaching him to build and work with hand radios, slot car racing, building model airplanes, boating with his family, buying cars, or traveling in his RV Motor Homes.
Sonny is survived by his adored wife of 68 years, Patricia Olive (Horner) Clark, his son Steven Grant Clark and his wife Joanne Trost Clark, 2 daughters Barbara Lee Collins, and Martha and her husband Kenneth Malavasi, 5 grandchildren Leigh Ann and her husband Matthew R. Panas, Erica Lynn and her husband James Lang, Jennifer, Trisha and John, and 5 great grandchildren Jackson, Blake, Matthew, Clark and Stephen.
A Memorial Visitation will be Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5:30 - 7 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
