Obituary for Marlene Rothbart (Ferruggia)
Marlene Ferruggia Rothbart died Saturday February 9, 2019 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick, NJ. She was 81.
Marlene was born in Newark, NJ on September 17, 1937 a daughter to the late Virginia (Laudadio) and Charles Ferruggia. She was raised in Springfield, NJ living in Kenilworth and Chatham Twp before moving to New Providence in 1977. She has lived in Brielle to be close to her two daughters for the last 2 years.
She was a graduate of Jonathan Dayton Regional High School in Springfield, NJ attended the University of Miami and received her bachelor’s degree from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ.
Marlene began her career as a Public Accountant for her fathers accounting firm, Charles Ferruggia and Sons, in Maplewood, NJ. She then was a self employed Public Accountant for over 35 years till present day in New Providence and Brielle, NJ.
She had a devote dedication to helping those in need. People she met over the years were welcome to stay in her home and accept her generous nature by any means she was able to provide, and centered her attention to her family as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin. Her love and affection will be greatly missed.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Laurie and her husband Robert J. DeSocio, and Lynda and her husband Arthur Lanza, 5 grandchildren Joseph, Matthew, Cathryn, Julia and Michael, 2 brothers Charles Ferruggia and his wife Kathleen and Robert Ferruggia and his wife Marcy, her former husband and father of her children David Rothbart, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, clients and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 15, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ with Fr. Richard Carton officiating. Interment will follow at St. Teresa of Avila Cemetery in Summit, NJ.
