Obituary for Arthur "Art" England
Arthur England died Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was 100.
Arthur was born on July 12, 1919, in Manhattan, NY, a son to the late Lily (Hanshaw) and Edward England. Arthur lived in Millington since 1960 before moving to North Carolina this past March.
He served as Sergeant in the United States Air Force 6th Engine Overhaul Squadron, as an Arial Engineer on a C-47 during WWII in the South Pacific.
Arthur worked for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad before becoming a Traffic Analyst and Traffic Coordinator for Hess Oil and Chemical in Woodbridge, NJ. He retired in 1985 as a Traffic Analyst for American Standard in Piscataway, NJ.
Art was a member of the Congdon Lodge #163 F and AM in Bernardsville, was a member of the Long Hill Township Lions Club where he served as Past President and Secretary, was a Honorary member of the T.O.P Squad, (now the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad), the American Legion Post 484 serving as Treasurer and Charter Member, served on the Long Hill Township Committee, the Board of Adjustment, and the Planning Board. He was a member of the Long Hill Township Senior Citizens, Middle Earth Volunteer Group in Somerville, a leader for the Millington Cub Scouts, and was an active member of the Meyersville Presbyterian Church.
Arthur was pre-deceased by his wife Constance "Jean" (Spoon) England in 2005. Arthur is survived by his two sons Arthur and his wife Linda of Magnolia, Delaware and Roger and his wife Nancy of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and two grandchildren Jennifer and Andrew.
Visitation will be Friday September 6, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Funeral Service will be Saturday 10:00 AM at the Meyersville Presbyterian Church 223 Hickory Tavern Road, Meyersville, NJ. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ.
