Obituary for Irving Jules Witkin
Irving Jules Witkin died Thursday, September 26, 2019 in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 75.
Irv was born in Bronx and lived in the Bronx until 1976 when he moved to Suffern NY. He resided in Boca Raton for the last 6 years. He was a graduate of Taft High School and earned his Bachelors degree in History from City College in Manhattan. He continued to receive a Masters in Education from Hunter College in New York.
He began his teaching in the Bronx, NY for 9 years, teaching math, history, and English at Taft High School, taught history and driver education, and was the Dean of Discipline at George Washington High School. He spent 4 years as Labor organizer for the American Federation of Teachers(AFT/ AFL-CIO), and 20 years, (1978-1998) at NYSUT(New York State United Teachers)- Labor Relations SPECIALIST for SUNY schools, retiring in 1998.
Irv was a member of Temple Beth El in Spring Valley, NY, the AFL-CIO, NYSUT and the AFT. After retiring in 1998, Irv worked Part time as a Mediation Facilitator for Rockland County. He was President of Lakewood Midrises Condominiums 2015-2019. He was an avid Yankees fan, attended Yankee games and collected Yankee memorabilia.
He loved Broadway shows, concerts, and live comedy. He loved traveling and cruising around the US and Overseas. With his love of game, he was passionate for blackjack, casino games, earning "Comps", and enjoyed fishing.
He was pre deceased by his wife Roberta (Nussbaum) Witkin in 1997.
Irv is survived by his two sons Brian and Scott Witkin, daughter in laws Suzanne and Tracy Witkin, 4 granddaughters, Rachel, Rebecca, Lila, and Bryn, his sister Doris Pammer, his nephews Lenny, Steve, and Alan Marsh, Jared Solomon and his niece Genna Wolkon. He also leaves behind many other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Service will be held at Gates of Zion Cemetery on September 29, 2019, at 670 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY at 10:00 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, Gillette, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the American Brain Tumor Association.
