Obituary for James Andrew "Jamie" VanDerveer
James Andrew "Jamie" VanDerveer, a lifelong resident of Piscataway, N.J., passed away with his loving family by his side on Nov. 13, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jamie was born in New Brunswick, NJ on September 17, 1969, a son to the late Concetta (Wood) and Richard VanDerveer. He married Tonianne (Galdieri) VanDerveer; the love of his life, in 2011, who survives him. Jamie is also survived by daughters, Lily and Hanna.
Jamie enlisted in the United States Marine Corp after graduating from high school and proudly served his country with two tours of duty in Iraq and was stationed for four years in the Philippines. Jamie’s passion and dedication to his country was only matched by his love and devotion to his family. Jamie was known for his infectious smile, his kind and compassionate spirit, love of Ocean City with his family and racing his car.
Jamie was employed by Turner Construction Company for 22 years, his latest role was as a General Foreman for the State of New Jersey in Somerset, NJ. He served as President of Building and General Construction Laborers Local 77 and was a dedicated communicant at Church of Christ the King in New Vernon, NJ.
He is survived by his sisters, Patricia O'Brien and Jeana Rowles and her husband Raymond, his brother Richard VanDerveer, his sister-in-law’s, Mary Beth Daras, Lisa Kenny and her husband James and Melanie de Poortere and her husband Michael. He will be lovingly remembered by his numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Jamie was pre deceased by his twin brother John VanDerveer and his brother-in-law Chris Daras.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2019 from 2-6 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A celebration Mass of Jamie’s life will take place on Monday, November 18, 2019 Church of Christ the King, 16 Blue Mill Road, New Vernon, NJ. at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ.
