Obituary

Lawrence E. Van Deusen died on Monday, December 9, 2019. He was 82. Larry was born on April 3, 1937 in New York City to Lawrence and Mae (O'Sullivan) Van Deusen and was the youngest of five siblings. He grew up in New York, attended Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx and excelled at track and field. He proudly served in the United States Army in the 1960’s. After his service, he worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and began a long career as a project manager and contractor for plumbing and heating systems at various chemical and pharmaceutical companies. Larry married his wife, Antonia Acosta from Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, in 1957 and they had a long and happy marriage with five children, and nine grandchildren. They were long-time residents of Carlstadt, New Jersey and were parishioners at Grace Episcopal Church, Rutherford, NJ. Larry owned and operated the East Rutherford Plumbing Supply. After their children were grown, Larry and Toni moved to Manalapan, New Jersey and attended St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Freehold, New Jersey where they renewed their wedding vows after 50 years. Larry and Toni later moved to Stirling, New Jersey in 2010. Larry was a beloved father and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews in the Tri-State area as well as Florida and Puerto Rico. He was probably the greatest fan of the New York Jets they will ever have. Larry enjoyed a lifetime of love and devotion and was a role model to his family and many friends of the family and will be dearly missed by all. He is survived by his sons, Lawrence Van Deusen and wife, Eleana, Berkeley Heights, NJ; Alexander Van Deusen and wife, Caryn; Mountainside, NJ; daughters Katrina Van Deusen and partner, Lisa Ryan; Philadelphia, PA; Wendy Van Allen and partner, Christopher Cazares; Kingston, NY, and Laurie Van Deusen. Stirling, NJ. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Eowyn and Crystar LaShell, Amber and Dylan Van Allen, Carlton and brother Grayson Van Deusen, and Brielle, Kendall and Tristan Van Deusen. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Antonia Van Deusen. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, from 5-7 pm, at Valley Memorial Home, 1012 Valley Road, Gillette, New Jersey. A memorial service will follow at 7pm. For more information and online condolences visit valleymemorialfuneralhome.net Memorial contributions may be made to https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
