Obituary

Donald W. Herbert, Sr. died May 24, 2020 at his home in Basking Ridge, NJ. He was 88.
Donald was born in Summit, NJ on June 28, 1931, was raised in Berkeley Heights, NJ living in Millington before moving to Basking Ridge in 1972.
He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime.
He worked as a self employed Truck Driver as the owner and operator of Wilson Freight Steel Division then at Ward Products Steel Division in New Brunswick, NJ before his retirement at age 72.
Donald enjoyed antique truck shows and the historical society.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Moore) Herbert, his children Donald Jr., Rick, Diane, Betty Jane and Donna, his step-children Bonnie, Steve and Scott, his sisters Joyce, Mirial and Marion, a brother Bob and 14 grandchildren.
A Virtual Visitation through a Zoom invitation will be Friday, May 29, 2020 from 3-5 PM from the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Service will be at 4:30 PM. Cremation is private. For more information and online condolences visit valleymemorialfuneralhome.net

It is with a heavy heart that we offer our condolences. We have great memories of Donald, especially the many Christmas Eves that we spent as a family. He was always smiling and seemed happy to just be together. We will treasure those memories forever and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole family during this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss I will miss the truck driving stories from the days of your dad and bob watson those were the days
donald always had a way to make you laugh I was not around him much but I will never forget the times I was in his company
