Obituary for Barbara Jean Cardinali (Travnicek)

Barbara Jean Cardinali (nee Travnicek)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Jean (BJ) Cardinali, 81, of Hackettstown, NJ and formerly of Millington. Barbara passed on in peace at the Hackettstown Hospital on January 20th, 2021.
Although small in stature, Barbara was large in life. She impacted many in our community as a volunteer member of the Millington First Aid Squad (and she even helped deliver a baby!), as a Girl Scout troop leader, serving in the PTA and as a class mother, as an active congregant of the First Presbyterian Church of Stirling as well as its bell choir, and in various volunteer activities in her Heath Village community, including chairing the Friendly Visitors committee.
Barbara was born and raised in Chicago and its western suburbs, and she graduated from Morton East High School in Berwyn, IL. She was a Past Honored Queen in Job’s Daughters. In her youth, Barbara trained as a talented singer, and she maintained her passion for singing into her senior years. Barbara also loved to play bridge – and she was pretty good at it too!
Barbara worked various jobs beginning with Western Electric and ending with retirement from Peapack-Gladstone Bank, but her most notable activities were outside of work – as a household engineer serving as “Mom’s taxi driver” and managing all of the trials and tribulations that go along with raising three children. Words cannot adequately capture the positive impact that she had on the lives of her family.
Barbara leaves behind three loving children, Linda Cardinali, Scott Cardinali and his wife Holly, and Patricia Cardinali and her partner John Kamau; three grandchildren, Matthew and Rebecca Cardinali and Joseph Kamau; her former husband Joseph Cardinali, and countless friends. She is pre-deceased by her adoptive parents, James and June Travnicek as well as her brother Robert Travnicek.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be planned post-pandemic. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that tribute donations be made in her name to The Raptor Trust, 1390 White Bridge Road, Millington, NJ 07946 or online at www.theraptortrust.org to acknowledge her passion for, and spiritual connection with eagles.
