Obituary for Joyce Johnson Kulzer (Mezger)

Joyce Eleanor Kulzer died peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021, in Watchung, NJ. She was 87.
Joyce was born on May 19, 1933 in Newark Valley, Tioga County NY. She was adopted by the late Blanche (Armor) and Gustav Mezger. She grew up in Long Island where she attended Roslyn High School. Joyce earned her Associates Degree in Home Economics from Southern Seminary College, Virginia.
After working for a few years Joyce resided as a homemaker caring for her family, moving to Massachusetts and then New Jersey. As a Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troops, Joyce was always looking for ways to help. She was an active 50+ year member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Millington, serving on their Vestry, Altar Guild, and prayer line. However, the role she loved the most was being a Sunday School Teacher.
Later in life, she enjoyed tap dancing, handbells, piano, and spending time with her grandchildren. Her love of rainbows was expressed to everyone she met and in her early 80’s became an avid painter with a rainbow in every piece of work. Joyce was also a volunteer in Pastoral Care at Morristown Memorial Hospital as well as the Guideposts Prayer Line.
She was predeceased by husband Henry Kulzer and her daughter Linda Gauthier.
She is survived by her daughter Karen and her husband Christopher Cotter, son Mark Johnson and his wife Kellen, daughter Dee Palmeri, her sisters Mildred Waggoner and Ruth Glover, and all her loving grandchildren Stephen, Brian, Alexandra, Caroline, Timothy, Michael, and Jonathan.
Memorial Services, followed by a celebration of her life, will be held at a later date to be announced. For more information and online condolences visit valleymemorialfuneralhome.net
