Ramona L. Walsh “Mona” of Millington, NJ passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2021. Born to Joseph and Barbara Chavez in St. Johns, AZ. Mona was raised in San Bernardino, CA and enjoyed all California had to offer as a young adult until she moved to NJ in 1968. She enjoyed spending her winters in The Villages Fla., and her summers in N.J., always surrounded by her beloved family.
Mona spent 3 years as a flight attendant for Western Airlines. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new people including Elvis Presley. In 1954, Mona attended “Stars and Bars” a Military Dance with her sister, Connie. At that dance she laid her eyes on a handsome Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. His name was William Sheehan Walsh. As soon as she saw William “Bill” she turned to her sister and said “That’s the man I’m going to marry”. Bill and Mona married on April 7, 1956 and spent 65 beautiful years together.
Although she hated smiling for pictures, her smile lit up any room she entered. She could strike up a conversation with anyone with her bubbly and witty personality. Everyone she met was instantly drawn to her, she had a way with people. Mona was an excellent story teller. Her family and friends will cherish her favorite stories and sayings that they can repeat for years to come. Mona’s youngest son Daniel (Danny) was diagnosed with Autism at an early age. Mona worked tirelessly to educate herself on his diagnosis. Due to her determination to find the best school for Danny he was one of the initial children accepted into Princeton Child Development Institute (PCDI) where he attended school until age 18. Danny now resides at the PCDI adult group home in Princeton, NJ.
Mona was a woman who put Christ first. Her beliefs and faith were at the forefront of who she was. She was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Stirling, NJ.
Mona’s most cherished role was being a mother and grandmother. She loved her 5 children and 3 grandchildren with all of her heart and unconditionally. To say she will be greatly missed is an understatement…… her memory will live on.
Mona was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Barbara Chavez and her sister Pearl Scotch. She is survived by her devoted husband William S. Walsh Sr, her sisters Mary Mazza and Connie Chaves and her loving children Kathleen (Bruce) Geltzeiler, Joseph (Nancy) Walsh, William (Lillian) Walsh, Michael Walsh and Daniel Walsh. Along with her adoring grandchildren, Dylan Geltzeiler, Shannon Walsh and William Walsh.
A private mass will be held for Mona. Donations in her memory may be made to Princeton Child Development Institute, 300 Cold Soil Road, Princeton, NJ 08540.
