Obituary for Angela Marie Marchese (DeFino)

Angela DeFino Marchese died February 18,2021 at her home in Basking Ridge, NJ. She was 93. Angela was born in Brooklyn,NY July 15,1927 to the late Etta Ginsberg DeFino and Santo DeFino where she lived till she married the late Anthony Marchese. The couple lived in Roosevelt LI,NY till 1961 when they moved to Basking Ridge,NJ. After raising their 6 daughters, they fostered several children and later adopted one of them.

Angela had a gift of making each person feel loved and important. She especially had a tender spot for those who were struggling.
Angela was given a love for the Catholic Church as a young child when she would walk by herself to Mass often. She was a faithful and active communicant at St.James RC Church in Basking Ridge where she participated in the Rosary Society. After the demands of raising her family lightened, Angela was a staple at the Lyons Veteran’s Hospital where she volunteered for over 30 years. She knew many patients by name and always greeted them with a smile.
Angela also volunteered at the Missionaries of Charity Soup Kitchen in Newark,NJ.

Angela is survived by her son Justin Marchese and his wife Sharon, and her 6 daughters, Mary and her husband Ken Sacks, Georgette and her husband Jim Jungles, Theresa and husband Kevin Piatt, Donna and her husband Mike D’Alessandro,Lori and her husband Jay Rusiniak , Amy and her husband John Stevens, and her 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her beloved grand daughter Nicole Falt whom she was very close to.

Visitation will be Monday February 22, 2021 from 4-6 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Virtual Zoom Visitation will be available. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 11:00 AM at St. James RC Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. Burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, Stirling, NJ.
