Obituary for Catharine "Cathy" Black

Catharine Black died Monday, February 14, 2022 at her home in Millington, NJ. She was 88.

Cathy was born in Newark, NJ on October 29, 1933 a daughter to the late Catharine Elizabeth (Cashill) and Edward Theodore Black, living in Harrison, Kearny and North Plainfield before moving to Millington, NJ over 40 years ago.

She was a graduate of Our Lady of Good Council High School in Newark, NJ, achieved a Bachelors Degree from St. Elizabeth College and received a Masters in Library Sciences from Rutgers University.

Cathy worked as a librarian for the South Plainfield School District for many years before retiring, served on the board at the Long Hill Township Library, was an avid reader, and an expert at crossword puzzles. Cathy also loved to travel. She was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul RC Church in Stirling.

She was survived by her loving cousins, especially Pamela and her husband George Kiss, Robert Cashill and his wife Carole and her dear friend Annette Besante. Catharine had a true love for her cats and will dearly miss her cat Lilly.

Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2022 from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.
