Obituary for Henry Elias Cababe

Henry Elias Cababe, a selfless, kind, humble and educated man died Saturday, February 19, 2022 at his home in Basking Ridge, NJ. He was 84.

Henry was born in Paterson, NJ on June 19, 1937, a son to the late Mary (Hayek) and Charles Cababe of Paterson, NJ.
He was a graduate of Pope Pius High School in Passaic, NJ and achieved a Bachelor's degree and Masters in Science from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

Henry worked as an engineer and scientist for Singer-Kearfott, Aerospace Division in Little Falls, NJ for over 39 years. He was instrumental in developing cameras for the Voyager space mission and the guidance system materials for the Apollo space voyages. In his retirement he helped his son, Cliff in business.

He was a devout Catholic and a communicant of St. James RC Church in Basking Ridge, NJ. He served as a Lecturer, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Holy Name Society. He loved to bird watch, fishing and was an expert at chess. Henry also loved rooting for the NY Yankees. Most important was the devotion to his faith and family that always came first!

He was pre-deceased by his sister, Sister Louise Cababe, a Dominican Nun, and his daughter-in-law Julie.

Henry is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Marlene (Deptula) Cababe. They met at a dance and enjoyed dancing with each other, well into their eighties. His 4 sons, Charles "Chuck" and his wife Joyce, Chris and his wife Sherry, Cliff and and Curtis Cababe. He is also survived by his grandson Phillip Cababe.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM and 9:30 AM on Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A welcoming of friends and family will begin at 10:30 AM at St. James RC Church in Basking Ridge, NJ followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center 575 Woodland Ave., Madison, NJ 07940 or the Salesians Missions, 2 Le Fevres Ln, New Rochelle, NY 10301.
