Obituary for Virginia Anne Egan

New Providence, NJ

Virginia (“Ginny”) Anne Egan died Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. She was 77.

Ginny was born on December 1, 1944, daughter to the late Rita (Clabby) and Thomas Leo Egan in Queens, NY. She grew up on Long Island and moved to Colorado in 1980 before returning to the East Coast in 2016, where she lived in Berkeley Heights and New Providence, New Jersey.

She graduated from Malverne High School in Malverne, NY, class of 1962, and attended college. After taking some time away from the workforce to raise her family, she started as a clerical assistant in the Admissions Office at the University of Denver (DU) in 1986. Rising through the ranks, she became DU’s Director for Transfer Admissions, working there 32 years before retiring.

Ginny was a very proud woman, but took the most pride in the accomplishments of those she cared for. She loved DU and found great satisfaction in her long career there, where she impacted the lives of countless transfer students who she came to see as “her own.” The only thing she loved more than DU was her three daughters. Their success was a testament to her love and tireless commitment to their futures. She was known as a soccer coach, a CCD teacher, a Junior Great Books leader, the Girl Scouts “cookie mom,” and so much more. Ginny was an avid reader and had a knack for sussing out plot twists in any book or movie. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Ginny was predeceased by her two brothers, Robert and Peter Egan. She is survived by her three daughters: Jessica (Rick) Hughes, Anne (Kevin) McLane, and Nora Heitmann; and her grandchildren Delia and James Hughes, Ryan, Luke, and Owen McLane, and Katherine and William Heitmann.
