Obituary for Gerardo Marchetto

Gerardo "Jerry" Marchetto died Tuesday June 21, 2022 at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Berkeley Heights in Berkeley Heights, NJ, surrounded by his family. He was 90.

Gerardo was born in Picerno, Italy on September 16, 1931, a son of the late Philomena (Langone) and Rocco Marchetto. He immigrated with his pregnant wife Angelina and son Rocco in 1959 to Summit, NJ. He moved to Gillette in 1975 in a home he built on Valley Road.

He worked as a construction foreman for Damon G. Douglas Construction, in Laborers Union 526 for over 30 years. He was involved in the construction of many buildings in the area including Bell Labs, The Mall at Short Hills, the Millburn Library and Overlook Medical Center.

Gerardo loved hunting small game, net fishing at Sandy Hook and raking local clams. He had a passion for his garden. He was a supplier of beautiful produce to many local restaurants. He jarred his tomatoes and vegetables and enjoyed making his own wine. When he found the time to relax, he enjoyed professional wrestling, watching a good western on TV or playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Angelina (Russillo) Marchetto, his son Rocco Marchetto, his former daughter-in-law Joyce, and his 2 daughters, Sue and her husband Greg Kelble and Anne and her husband Andrew Picone. He is survived by seven grandchildren, including Jonathan and his wife Lauren, Lucia and her fiancé Michael, Gianna, Kathryne, Caroline, Lauren and Matthew, his brother-in law Antonio Russillo and his wife Angelina as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 23, 2022 from 4-8 pm at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, June 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ. Entombment will follow at St. Teresa of Avilla Mausoleum in Summit, NJ. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation,www.michaeljfox.org or the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad.
