Obituary for Margaret "Marge" Schneider (Doyle)

Margaret Doyle Schneider passed away peacefully in Falmouth, MA on Monday, June 27 at the age of 95, following complications from a recent injury. She was born in the Bronx, NY, on September 2, 1926, to parents Genevieve (Keough) and Patrick Doyle, and attended secondary school at the Villa Maria Academy. After marrying, she moved from New York City to Cranford, NJ to raise her family, and remained in the community for the past 65 years.

Margaret considered her lifelong love of learning and her sense of curiosity to be a blessing, contributing to her long, rich life. She was happiest when her family was gathered and was a loyal friend to many. She had a passion for the written and spoken word, cherished great conversations, and read The NY Times newspaper every Sunday. In addition to her love of literature, she had a great appreciation for the arts, particularly classical music, and theater, and was an avid supporter of public radio and television programs.

In midlife, Marge chose to pursue her college degree and attended Union County College and Kean University, earning a BA in English in 1980. She was a beloved teacher of English literature for many years at St. Theresa’s School in Linden, NJ, until her retirement in 1997. She was a devoted member of Cranford’s Wednesday Morning Club, where she enjoyed planning the educational and artistic lecture series in her role as program coordinator.

Marge took great pride in the accomplishments of her immediate and extended family. She is survived by her children: Bernard Schneider, Beth Coon (Daniel), Christopher Schneider (Amy), John Schneider (Gail), Mary Schneider, Ellen Christiano (John), thirteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Richard W. Schneider, son Paul Schneider, grandson William Schneider, and her eleven brothers and sisters.
