Obituary for Honora Therese Carney (Smith)

Honora Therese Carney passed Sunday, September 11, 2022 peacefully at home with her loving family by her side. She was born in Newark, NJ, and was a long-time resident of South Windsor, CT, prior to residing with her daughter in Avon, CT. Proud of her Irish Heritage, she aimed to instill in her family that same pride. She taught Irish Step Dancing for many years and throughout her life, she has been very active and involved in Irish functions and societies. It was on Saint Patrick’s Day, at one of these functions, that she met her husband Thomas Francis Carney II, whom she was married to for 50 years before his passing in 1999. She worked as a Court Reporter for the State of CT for numerous years. Upon her retirement, Honora’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Her zest for life was insurmountable and her positivity was truly inspirational. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Francis Carney II, two sons, Thomas Francis Carney III and Kevin Richard Carney, and daughter-in-law Laura Carney. Her eight siblings: Peggy, Kathleen, Jimmy, Philip, Anne, Peter, Gene, and Lorraine. She is survived by her daughter, Honora Carney Dalamagas, and five grandchildren: Robert Carney, Justin Carney and his spouse Trish Carney, Denis Dalamagas, Thomas Dalamagas, Honora Maureen Dalamagas, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Wednesday, September 14 from 9-10 A.M. at Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd, Gillette, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, Stirling, NJ. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
