Robert G. Loeber died Monday April 17, 2023 at Pine Acres Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Madison, NJ. He was 88.
Bob was born in Teaneck, NJ on July 11, 1934, a son to the late Helen (Johnson) and Henry Loeber living in Waldwick, Mahwah, Dorset, VT and Wantage, NJ before moving to Basking Ridge 8 years ago.
He graduated from Wood-Ridge High School, got a scholarship to play football at Doylestown College in PA and attended Columbia University.
Bob worked as an Electrical engineer at many companies including Burns and Roe in Oradell, NJ before retiring.
Raised as a Lutheran, Bob converted to Catholicism in 1958 shortly before marrying the love of his life Patricia (Wolf). He was a parishioner at Immaculate Conception in Mahwah, NJ where he served as Eucharistic Minister, was a basketball coach and ran the Antique Sales Fundraiser. While in Manchester he was a communicant at St. Paul's RC Church and has been a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul RC Church in Stirling for the last 8 years.
An All-Star Athlete, Bob ran track, played football, basketball and baseball. He was considered a natural at any sport he played. His family was the first on his block at Breezy Point, NY where he worked as a life guard, and loved to fish. This gave him a love for the beach. A father of seven, he would bring his family camping all along the eastern coast from Canada to Florida, loading into the station wagon and towing the pop-up camper. Studying agriculture in college, he was one of the first to organic garden. While in Vermont, Bob became very talented in woodcraft, making trellises for garden centers, sleds and rustic furniture he sold at market.
He was pre-deceased by his 2 brothers Henry and Everett.
Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia A. (Wolf) Loeber, commenting before he passed, loving her every day since they met. He is also survived by his seven children: David and his spouse Elizabeth, Diane Papa, Charles and his spouse Teresa, Marianne and her spouse Mel VanderWall, Thomas and his spouse Shannon, Karen and her spouse Janine Wagner, and Keith and his spouse Lareh. He had 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 4-7 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10:30 AM at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling. Burial will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
