Obituary for Dominick R Tranquilli

Dominick R. Tranquilli, Sr., October 16, 1931- May 4, 2023, passed away peacefully at his home in Gillette, NJ. Dominick was born in Summit, NJ, to the late Theresa (Natale) and Peter Tranquilli of Summit, N.J. He was proud of his roots, which stretched back to Venarotta, Italy.

Dominick was a true patriot. He was on active duty as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War, 1951 – 1954. He was a decorated member of the 187th Airborne, Rakkasan Unit as a paratrooper. Upon honorable discharge, he owned Garden State Tree Service. He started a new career in 1960 as an Owner/Operator for Wilson Freight, enjoying his work as a trucker until 1993 (he always said it was great fun being out on the road). He then joined two of his sons at Transtar Truck Body before his final work as a crew member for Mazzocchi Demolition. He reverently worked alongside the men and women on the World Trade Center site after 9/11.
In 2002 he retired, having earned every dollar that passed through his hands during his career.

Dominick was a member of the Italian American Club of Summit, NJ, and the VFW National Registry.
His greatest attribute was the ability to make friends where ever he went. He was recognized as a man that could fix anything in any spot, especially if it had an engine!

He met the love of his life, Bridget J. (Luciano), at Martin’s Sweet Shop in Summit, NJ, their mutual hometown, until they moved to Gillette in 1967.
They were married for 57 years before Bridget passed away in 2012.

Dominick is survived by 6 children: Elizabeth and husband Daniel Gates, Dominick R. Jr. and wife Christina Tranquilli, Patricia Tranquilli and husband Javier Llanca, Mark Tranquilli, Louis Tranquilli, Mathew Tranquilli; 20 grandchildren (listed by parents): Bridget and Alison Gates, Maria, Dominick III, and Paul Tranquilli, Rosann Burke, Elizabeth Economu, and, Nicole Paiz, Bradley, Melanie and Samantha Tranquilli, Brandon, Kyle, Sarah, and Jackson Tranquilli, Nicholas, Victor, Danielle, Theresa, and Valerie Tranquilli; 6 Great Grandchildren: Gabriel Marroquin, Alena and Gianna Paiz, Athena Economu, Dominick IV, and Luna Ella Tranquilli;
