Lawrence J. Oster died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at his home in Millington, NJ. He was 88.
Lawrence was born in Hazleton, PA on October 3, 1935 a son to the late Anna (Bartkus) and Peter Oster where he lived, moving to Plainfield before moving to Millington in 1975.
He was a graduate of Hazleton High School class of 1953 and attended classes at Penn State University.
He worked as a Technical Assistant for Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, NJ for over 34 years.
He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul RC Church in Stirling, NJ.
Lawrence served in the United States Army as a SP4(T) E-4 from 1960 - 1964
Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and bee keeping. He was an ardent gardener for most of his life growing vegetables for the table and maintaining the landscape around the house.Saying he was mechanically inclined was an understatement, he would repair almost anything including watches and clocks and was involved in the repair of bicycles with a group of friends to donate them to charities.
He was pre-deceased by his daughter Aileen Oster in 2017 and his siblings: Joan Ambruch, Emily Oster and Peter Richard Oster.
Lawrence is survived by his wife Ann (Gallagher) Oster, his two sons Brian A. Oster and his wife Meredith, Kevin Oster and his wife Catharine Scruggs, a daughter Audrey Oster and her husband Peter Gordon, and a son-in-law Norman Solis. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Margaret and her husband Joseph Christensen and Mary Anne and her husband Michael Aiello, his grandchildren: Miles, Max, Wes, Lucy, Leo and Serafin and two grand step-children Connor and Ryan.
Visitation will be Tuesday October 31, 2023 from 6-8 PM at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday November 1, 2023 at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Stirling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the Raptor Trust in Millington, NJ.
