J Stephen "Steve" Badgley, died Saturday December 30, 2023 at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. He was 74.

Steve was born on March 31, 1949 in Summit, NJ. Son of the late Robert H & Frances (Eastman) Badgley. His father Robert served as Mayor of New Providence, NJ in the 1950’s and his mother Frances was a founding member of the New Providence Historical Society.

Steve was a lifelong resident of New Providence, from 30 Glenside Road to 31 Barberry Lane. He graduated from New Providence High School in 1967, started his college career at Rutgers, and transferred to Huron College in South Dakota where he graduated with a BS in Biology in 1972.

Steve played NPHS soccer and volleyball. He was a Life Scout and active leader in Cub and Boy Scouts. He was a New Jersey State Champion Accordion Player, a member of the Amateur (Ham) Radio Club, and orchestrated lighting and effects for Chatham Community Players.

Steve met his high school sweetheart, Elaine Robbins, volunteering for the VA and EMS services. He was a 50-year Respiratory Therapist at Overlook and Morristown Memorial Hospitals. In the 1980s, he started a 30-year career as systems analyst and computer programmer for System Dynamics and Geneve Corporations in Stamford, CT. He shared time in both careers until he retired in 2017.

Steve loved time with family and faith. He was a committed Christian, attending Long Hill Chapel services, bible study groups, and playing in the Bell Choir.

Steve was predeceased by his wife Elaine Christine Badgley and his brother Dr. Robert H Badgley Jr - He is survived by his [3] children: John S Badgley, Erin A & husband Kurt Wade, and Daniel L & Jenna (Dente) Badgley- his [3] grandchildren: Sabrina, Gracelyn and Benjamin - and his great-grandson: Luca Martin-Badgley. He is also survived by a brother James L & Katherine (Mergler) Badgley, his sister Judith & husband J Parker Bailey, along with [11] nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are planned for May 4th, 2024. Details to follow.
