Obituary for Anna Golden (Fusiak)

Anna Golden, nee Fusiak, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024 peacefully at her home in Millington, NJ. She was 95 years old.
Anna was born in Yonkers, NY on August 3, 1928, a daughter to the late Mary (Bybel) and Akim Fusiak.

Anna was raised in Jersey City, NJ, the oldest of three siblings. During WW2, Anna joined the war effort to work for Western Electric Co in a classified department and took a leave from her high school studies. After the war, she resumed her studies and ,at 19, graduated from William L Dickinson High School in Jersey City as a valedictorian. At Dickinson, she met Edward Golden, who became her husband in 1950. In 1957 they had their first son, Patrick, followed in 1959 by Tee and in the next 9 years their daughters Mary and Joanne were born.

In 1959 they purchased their home in Millington where all four children were raised and where Anna lived out her life. As a mother of four, Anna had a busy life. When her children reached school age, she became a very involved volunteer with the community as a den leader for Cub Scout Pack 56 and as a Girl Scout leader. In addition, she worked for the Lyons VA Medical Center in Lyons, NJ from 1980 to 1997.

As the children grew up and had their own children Grandma Anna became a great presence for her grandchildren and of course great help to their parents. As the grandchildren grew older Anna was able to focus more on volunteer work again. Having been a faithful and longtime volunteer to local resident Charlie White, she decided that she would honor his father’s wish to take on even more responsibility for Charlie. She became his legal guardian and remained so until his passing. Many in the community have recognized Anna for the effortless and endless help that she gave Charlie and that he benefited tremendously from. In 2017, she was awarded the Good Scout Award by the Boy Scouts’ local council, Patriot’s Path. The Good Scout Award is given to recognize outstanding citizens who serve as exemplary role models, chosen for their outstanding community service.

Anna was also a longtime volunteer with the Seniors of Long Hill Township and was for many years a volunteer at the biannual rummage sale for the VNA of Somerset Hills.
She has also been a long-time member and founder of a group of women who referred to their group as Stitch and Chat, which met regularly for more than 25 years. The women, from all corners of the world, created a lifelong support system of sisterhood among themselves.

She is predeceased by her husband Edward Golden (1986). She is survived by her four children, Patrick Golden and his wife, Lena, Tee Golden, Mary Taylor, and Joanne Banfi and her husband, Silvano. Grandma Anna was very loved by her grandchildren Linus, Griffin, Sophia, Massimo, Maija, Giulia, and Björn.
