Lena R. Dorsi died Monday October 24, 2016 in Morristown, NJ. She was 94.
Lena was born in Somerville NJ on October 3, 1922 a daughter to the late Maria (Aranzulla) and Paul Recchia. She lived in Raritan and Martinsville before moving to Stirling in 1964.
She was a graduate of Somerville High School.
She worked as an administrative assistant at the Army depot in Belle Meade, NJ for many years which is where she was introduced to her husband by his cousin. Once her daughter was in school she worked as a nanny for 6 years. She ended her work career at AT&T in Bedminster where she worked for 10 years before retiring in 1987. In later years she became an adopted grandmother and caretaker to Victoria Giordano.
She always delighted in cooking, cleaning, baking, sewing, tending to her many plants and caring for her husband and daughter and making sure that whoever came through her door never left hungry. She was generous to a fault with her time and talents. One of her passions was going to Atlantic City and most recently the Sands in Bethelehem, PA to play the slot machines. When in the casino, she had not a care nor pain in the world. It was her happy place. She also delighted in scratch off lottery tickets!
She was a communicant and faithful parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul RC Church in Stirling and had a special place in her heart and home for each and every priest & sister of the parish.
Lena was pre-deceased by her husband David “Duke” Dorsi in May 2016, her 2 brothers Anthony and Philip, and her 3 sisters Carmela Tasnady, Rose Ciattarelli. and Virginia Donofrio.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Dorsi.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 4-8 pm at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday 10:00 AM at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Stirling. Arrangements are under the direction of the Valley Memorial Funeral Home, Gillette, NJ.
