Charles W. Schmidt died Monday September 4, 2017 in Summit, NJ at the age of 91.
Charles was born in Summit on September 26, 1925 and was a lifelong resident of Long Hill Township.

He was a graduate of Newark Technical School and worked for over 40 years as owner of Suburban Radio and TV in Stirling, NJ Prior employment included working at his mother's eatery, the Valley Inn (now the Primavera) in Stirling, which was in operation from the 1920's through the 1950's.

Charles was a founding member of the Long Hill Township Lions Club and was active in it for 50 years. He was also a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and the Masonic Lodge in Bernardsville.

Charles is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lilas M. (Stewart) Schmidt, his 2 daughters Carolyn Schmidt and Kristine Hartwell, and their husbands Dan Kahn and Peter Hartwell. He had 4 grandchildren, Andrea, Lauren, Julie and Tyler.

Visitation will be Friday 4-7 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Rd., Gillette, NJ. A Service will follow on Saturday 11:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge, NJ. Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Hill Township First Aid Squad or to the National Audubon Society.
