Condolence From: Tommy John Urban
Condolence: The year was 1964/5 Aunt Emma took her son Tommy, daughter MaryAnn my sister and I on a vacation to Vermont. It was the first time I was ever in a motel. We traveled back then on the scenic byways through upstate New York, to Vermont all the way to the Canadian border were Tommy and I had a chance to fish in Canada. She watched us from the bridge warning us to watch out for this or that. She would get a kick when asking me a question, I would reply with Dank you or No dank you. For the life of me I could not say thank you or No thank you. To a 10 year old going on a trip like this was a big adventure. I think it was for her too, it was a year earlier that Uncle Bill had past, followed by the assassination of JFK. It was a time for mourning in many ways.
There were the Christmas Eve parties at her house on Underwood Street each year where all the Uncles, Aunts, cousins, inlaws and outlaws all gathered for a festive meal. The party was passed on to Billy and Rae’s and I believe it still goes on. There isn’t a Christmas that I don’t pass that I think about those parties and bless all who were there. What a great legacy.
For all of Aunt Emma’s great grandchildren know this about her, she was the world’s best floater in a swimming pool. At the annual Urban summer party at our house Aunt Emma would don her bathing suit and cap, get in the water and be the envy of driftwood. As a young lad trying to float was almost impossible for me, but to watch her float was incredible. After the party I would jump in the pool and try to do the same thing but… sink. As a matter of fact just a few years ago I found some old home movies and there was a clip of Aunt Emma floating.
Well so much for some early memories from a lad of many years ago, but to all the Yurecko’s may God Bless you all. To MaryAnn and others as a care giver our hearts go out to you, going through this process is full of mixed blessing and an emotional time. With my father going through hospice and the long hours my Mom spent tending to his needs and to my wife as she helped her mother who passed just recently. There is a side of you that is relieved and another side of the sense of loss. But remember she was met by all the love ones who have past. And from our Lord the words “job well done good and faithful servant”. May perpetual light shine upon her, may she rest in peace.
Blessing to you all,
Tommy John Urban
God son
