Obituary for Linda J.S. Finnegan (Smith)

Linda J.S. Finnegan passed away accidentally on Saturday December 3, 2016. She was 54.
Linda was born in Jamaica, Queens to Joan G. (Gootman) Smith and Todd A. Smith living in Brooklyn before moving to Red Bank, NJ at the age of four. She has resided at her happy home in Stirling, NJ for the last 27 years.
She was a graduate of Montclair State University with a BA in Sports, Recreation and Commercial Tourism. For the last 11 years she taught Physical Education at St. Vincent de Paul School in Stirling. Linda was proud to be ACE Gold Certified for Group Aerobic Instruction. She founded Linda’s Just Stay Fit, developed the program “Girl Power” for the YMCA, was in the final phases of creating an intergenerational enrichment program, and recently earned her certification as Nutritionist and Life Style Coach.
A true woman of Christ, she was deeply loved by both the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church community in Red Bank and the St. Vincent de Paul Parish community in Stirling.
Her unconditional love and persistent joy was felt by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Linda was predeceased by her mother, Joan, in August.
Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 29 years, Jim Finnegan, her father Todd A. Smith, her five little lovies: Nicole, Shannon, Kathleen, Victoria and James, her brother Alan Smith (Lynne), her sister Carol Smith (Paul Tanner), her lifelong friend Kathy O’Connor (Tom), many cherished brothers- and sisters-in law, loved nieces and nephews, and truly dear friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Cafegymatorium 250 Bebout Ave., Stirling, NJ from 4-8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church, Stirling. Disposition is private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Linda’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
