Michael O. Pedersen, 79, of Watchung, NJ, passed away on October 29 at his home with his family by his side. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 11, at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South Street, New Providence, NJ, 07974 (908-464-5177).
Michael was born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 14, 1938, and grew up in the neighborhood of Bay Ridge. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn in 1956, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in 1978 and an MBA in 1982, both from Pace University in New York. Michael spent the majority of his career working for AT&T and Telcordia Technologies in New York and Piscataway, and also served in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1968.
After residing for his first 46 years in his beloved Brooklyn, Michael moved in 1984 to Watchung, NJ, where he spent the last three decades of his life.
Michael will be dearly missed by his wife, Barbara (Smith) of 52 years; his son, Steven and daughter-in-law Carla; his daughter Karen Hauck and son-in-law Daniel; his four grandchildren, Chelsea, Amanda, Emily and Thomas; his sister Arlene Townes, and nephew Jonathan Townes. He was predeceased by his parents Klara (Reiersen) and John Pedersen.
Michael was an avid reader, active in his church, and enjoyed spending summer evenings cheering on the New York Yankees. Most of all, he will be remembered as a kind and loving man who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his friends and family, particularly his grandchildren. Michael also maintained close relations throughout his lifetime with numerous cousins who resided everywhere from New York to Norway – the birthplace of his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s name to Faith Lutheran Church to provide care for those in need.
